I'm a guy, and I have this friend whos a girl, and she seems upset and depressed latley. I care about her, and im a little concerned. My main focuc is whenever i try to comfort her (when i try to hug her) she sorta pulls away. I dont think that its something i did, but does anybody have any advise, preferably from girls?

she never has been to fond of hugging, but latly she seems to be especially protective.

There are ways to comfort her without touching her. Talking, looking into her eyes, showing you're there for her. When people are depressed, they want to be left alone. Their minds are working so hard that any kind of affection makes them uncomfortable. It's like having a toothache, it hurts so badly, but you don't want to be around anyone, you just want to be left alone to deal with the pain. Don't force it on her, she'll resent you for it and you may loose her. Just be there, and let her know that you are.

Reply:Usually when that happens, they may be afraid of physical touch, by a guy. haha. i know i was that way at first, i was scared to be hugged / touched by a guy. but once i got comfortable around that person, then it got easier.

just tell her the truth, make her comfortable, but dont get to close to fast, that could be bad.

Reply:It may be as simple as the fact that she just doesnt like physical contact. Its a defense mechanism. Be there for her, but dont touch her unless she is comfortable with it.

Reply:It is possible that something happened to her recently to make her especially protective. Send her a card, saying that you're thinking about her, that you care and want to be there for her, as her friend. Don't push to try to get her to talk; let her do so in her own time.
Reply:When people are depressed or distanced themselves, the last thing they want is physical contact. Give her space and tell her that you're there for her, to listen and talk to whenever she's ready to.
Reply:you are doing what you are suppose to do as a good friend just keep trying to be there for her but you should also get to the root of the problem that way you can help her better.

it's her first baby, she's 32, the baby weighs only 5 lb and she's due this week. i asked her why in an email and she chose not to respond. what are some reasons why one would want an elective c-section?

Nothing is wrong with that, don't knock it until you tried it. I prefer a c-section over vaginal because I don't know if I could have pushed my babies out like that.
Reply:well most doctors will not do an elective c section unless you go private and have lots of money to pay for it or maybe there is a good medical reason for it for instance if the woman has herpes then she can pass it off o the child so they will do one then incase the trama causes and outbreak and passes it on etc

I do not agree with elective c-sections (because it is a surgery) but if I could I would have elective inducement the day i turned 37 weeks ...

The last 2-3 months of being pregnant are hard as hell on the body, your tired, have heartburn , cant sleep, you get puffy hands and feet, it hurts to walk, roll over in bed, get in and out of bed, sit down or stand up - you look like a walking house, you feel like a cow, i feel sickly everyday - I'm tired, cranky, one minute i am hot the next i am freezing, i can pee every 20 minutes and that after holding it for 10 minutes and feeling like i am gonna pee my pants any second..my knees hurt, my hips hurt, my crotch hurts...every couple of hours I have my babies head bounce off of my cervix (which is very very very painful)

Who wouldn't want to have that over as soon as possible if they can...

Reply:Elective C-sections are on the rise and why anyone chooses one is completely their own business. If your friend refuses to answer your question of why she is, then leave it alone. She may be too embarassed to tell you the true reason why she is taking this route for the delivery of her baby or she may think it a private matter that only she and and her doctor discussed. No matter the reason(s) just be happy for your friend that she is becoming a mother.

Reply:Umm..... I begged for a c-section the 2nd time around. First of all, anyone who wants to say women are crazy or stupid for wanting one have obviously never experienced the joy of having their 8 pound, 11 ounce baby's head stuck (you know where) for over two hours, pressing down on a nerve and causing pain like you wouldn't believe. Oh yes, I had an epidural but as it turns out, sometimes the epidural can make u hyper-sensitive. So, after two hours of the worst pain EVER I have the M.D. tell me if I don't push him out soon, they will need to use the vacuume. I was well informed and knew that it can cause brain damage, so hey!! new stress.

Then, when I finally did push him out (after 19 hours of labor, mind you and over two hours of strenous pushing) I had a pain so bad in my vagina that I had to sit on ice packs for weeks. It barely touched the pain, even with the Percocet.

Anyway - after that I began to lose control of my bowels. Yup - whenever they felt like it, they came. #2 was the biggest problem. I am 29 now, my son is 5 and I am in need of surgery to have my bladder tied up.

I loved my C-section and would do it again in a heartbeat!!!! The first was so traumatic!!

So, give her a break. Maybe she doesn't want you to know she craps herself........you never know.....

Placental dysfuction, where the placenta is not functioning well %26amp; therefore the baby would become distrssed if labour was induced, gential herpes ( risk to baby being born naturally), breech position or other abnormal position. Don't keep harping at her for a reason, she may not know, ot want to discuss it with u.

Reply:She is probably too afraid of going through with labor and doesn't want to admit she is scared. She may have heard a horror story or two about those women who labor for 48 hours straight then have an emergency c because the baby or the mom is in danger. Who knows. Is she a close friend? I don't see why she wouldn't tell you if she was a good friend. I don't see what the big deal would be in admitting her fears. I think we were all scared at some point that we wouldn't be able to handle it. I am scared now and I have already gone natural for my first! lol Don't listen to the others who say its "her business" like you are being some busy-body. While it IS her business and her decision, you being pregnant are just trying to get as much information about delivering (maybe she knows of some risks that you don't know about).... Reply:There are many medical reasons for this to be done, and if she doens't want to share this info with you, you should accept that. She's probably pretty stressed about it too. Maybe she'll tell you after the baby is born.
Reply:Maybe, there is something she is uncomfortable about wanting to share with you. It's her body and her choice, she will need your help after the surgery, just be a loving friend to her and be there for her.

My sister had 3 C_ sections, not by choice, her pelvis was shattered when she was 6, another friend who also was in her early 30's had one and got her tubes tied.

Reply:She's probably just afraid of the actual birthing process, but she should know that C-Sections are much worse. It takes much longer to recover, and there's a lot more recovery pain. A lot of women completely lose feeling in that little bit where they cut. She may be afraid of *pardon me for saying this* losing vaginal elasticity...she might be afraid that sex won't feel the same.
Reply:if it's truly elective (for non medical reasons) the only reason to do it is convenience. maybe her partner is going out of town, maybe she wants the baby born a certain day.

i dunno. but it's not the smartest decision, imo. c-sections are VERY risky for the mom and risky to even the healthiest of babies.

Reply:There should be no reason to paint one, unless its really damaged and scratched. Then you need to replace. Try a really good detergent and washing up scourer for a clean first.

Paint will not stay on, it will peel.
Reply:You might be able to buy a special paint but when I had mine fiited I asked and they said no.
Reply:the paint would dry out and crack very quickly, if you managed to get it to stay on in the first place, as upvc isn't permeable the paint would have nothing to stick to...try painting a plastic bottle or bowl and you'll see what i mean

Reply:Don't do it. It will look ******** awful, and the paint will start to peel-off after a couple of weeks. A nice white clean uPVC door, and you want to paint it? Why?

Wash it with hot soapy water, dry it thoroughly, and then polish it with car polish such as Autoglym or similar. If it is really badly stained, T-Cut it first, then polish it. It will look gorgeous.

Reply:i am a painting contractor and the person who suggested using binz was on the right track....I would suggest an even better primer called X-I-M ...it is about 50 dollrs a gallon but it will give you the adhesion you will need to bond to the pvc, if you use the x-i-m you will be able to use any paint for a topcoat you want but i would suggest an industrial enamel...Valspar makes a good one.good luck

Unfortunately, no. The C drive failing is like your hard drive failing. In order to re-boot your computer after a hard drive (or C drive failure) you would need to get a new hard drive. Also, I don't believe it's possible to back up the operating system itself, but you could surely backup everything else.
Reply:No, you cannot install XP on a thumb drive without a lot of configuration and setup work. If his hard drive crashes, he will still have to reload the entire system, but at least you'll have copies of any documents, favorites and such backed up.

Reply:If you backed up all the files which I doubt you did, b/c windows is such a big file. A usb flash drive MOST likely wouldnt be able to hold that. I would suggest an external hard drive. You prolly backed up your files.....not XP

Although its possible to make an .iso of your current windows installation, it is too big to fit on a flash drive, and you have to know what you are doing and use special software to do so.

Also, you have to use bootable media for windows to work. Flash drives are not bootable media.

You are a good friend to be supportive at a time like this. So often people step away from their friends because they don't understand the disease, or they have fears of catching that disease. The best thing that you can do is to educate yourself about this so you won't have unnecessary fears.

As for your letter, many people live with hep c and live a normal life. Hep c is a slowly progressing disease (unless someone hurries it along by drinking alcohol or using too many OTC or prescription drugs). It can be managed by a healthy lifestyle, and most importantly, it can be treated. While the treatment is effective in about 50-80%+ of those who take it, even in those that fail treatment, the medication has been shown to histologically improve the condition of the liver. Hep c (HCV) is not a death sentence in most people. Encourage your friend to educate herself/himself so he/she can make the best health care decisions. And let him know you have two internet friends (Bayla and myself) who have cleared the virus on treatment and are living a normal life. Best wishes to you and your friend.

You have to be who you are, and when people can't accept that, believe me, they aren't people you want to befriend anyway. You want friends that are going to be there for you, not just you there for them. Be yourself, don't "try" to make friends come, they will see that, and prey on that to get what they want out of you. Just keep being the nice person you are, and when the time is right, the one true friend will come. Because 1 true friend is always better then 20 fake so-called friends.

He might. Hep C can damage your liver to the point of needing a transplant, even with treatment. But, there is hope that is can go into a remission sort of state. This won't mean he doesn't have the disease anymore. It just means that it will leave him alone for a little bit and bug him again when it feels like it.

She normally is very articulate, and enunciates her words clearly. I have tried talking to her, telling her I don't understand her when she says Tatoon instead of Cacoon, or Tar instead of Car. How about Talt instead of Talk. It's very frustrating, and I am losing my patience. She is a smart cookie, and I know she is doing it intentionally. She will say it wrong, then when I say something she will say it correctly. This started 2 days ago, so it's a new thing, and I need to nip it before it becomes habitual. I have tried explaining that her friend has a problem with her speech, she is getting help to learn to say her words correctly, and talking the way she is, doesn't help her friend to learn the right sounds. It doesn't matter, she keeps doing it. Any suggestions on how to get her to stop?

Don't chastise her, she is four. Instead ignore what she is saying and instead say " that's right we are going to the CAR"

Be positive when she pronounces something correctly.Speak to all who care for her and let them know that you are ignoring it and reinforcing it with the correct pronounciation of the word .She will get bored and move onto something else that will annoy you!
Reply:I teach 4's and I deal with this on an everyday basis. What is frustrating is that my own 4 year old brings it home with me! And the worst is that I catch myself talking like one of my students with very impulsive speech at home. He says things so passionately and intense that it is just fun. :)

I wouldn't ignore this because then she may keep it up and form a habit. I would be consistent about it - set up a rule that if she says she will go into an immediate punishment - no warning. Even if she looks shocked and says "Oh sorry" she still needs a time out. After her 4 minutes remind her what she did and what she should say. Brag on her about proud you are she can speak so well.

Reply:If she is doing it deliberately, she may be looking for attention. She may realise that her friend gets attention because of her speech difficulties. I would try to ignore it and repeat the words she mispronounces properly after her. If she can already speak properly this will only be a game she is playing.

Please don't punish her for speaking like this as it could have a negative effect on how she views her friend and she may try to punish her friend for not speaking properly. It might also make a bigger issue out of it than necessary. I do agree with praising her when she speaks well. Then she gets attention in a positive manner.
Reply:Positive Punishment. Punish to demolished the behavior for example tell her to take a time out for 5 minutes and she has to say the word the correct way in order leave time out. Also talk to the teacher to make the teacher catch it and punish her by doing time out as well for her.

Reply:Four year olds will try just about anything to control their environment. If she is imitating, that means she knows the right way to speak. The more you try to control how she talks, the more she'll want to keep speaking the sounds wrong. Even though it's hard, let her experiment with it. She'll go back to the right way when she's ready or gets bored with it.

Star is right. She needs to seek a job that offers Group Health and life Insurance. I'm parapledgic and have the same problem. Fortunately I work for a company that offers both group health and life, therefore I'm covered, even for pre-existing conditions.

As for the Hep C. She needs to keep tabs on it like getting a liver test every 5 years or so. My daughter has Hep C and she does fine. www.webmd.com has some good info on hep C and the new treatments / cures for it. Good luck T
Reply:If she is able to find a policy that will take her, you can be sure that the hepatitis will be considered a pre-existing condition and any treatment related to it will be excluded. It won't be low cost. With her condition, she will need expensive treatment at some point. You can't expect to pay pennies and get platinum.

We have been friends for five years. We were really really close friends. Our friendship was so unique that watever happend to her, happend to me and vise versa. Transmission of any disease is not absolute; hepatitis is contagious through bodily fluids, but doesn't have to be. Hep C is a terrible disease, thank goodness you didn't get it. Get tested again because it's not always picked up on the first test.

It's success often depends on the type of infection. For example, this treatment clears infection in up to half the people with genotype 1 — the most common genotype found in the United States — and in up to 80 percent of those with genotypes 2 and 3.

Duration of treatment

If you have genotype 1 HCV, your doctor may recommend a course of relatively high-dose medications for 48 weeks. If you have genotype 2 or genotype 3, a 24-week course of medications at a lower dose may be adequate.

If one course of combined pegylated interferon and ribavirin doesn't clear HCV from your bloodstream, your doctor may recommend a second course of combination therapy. If your viral load declined during the first round of medications, a second round may clear the virus completely. Even if there was no change in your viral load during the first course of treatment, a second course may help reduce the damage HCV does to your liver.

Side effects of medications

Interferon side effects include severe flu-like symptoms, irritability, depression, concentration and memory problems, skin irritation, fatigue and insomnia.

Ribavirin can cause a low red blood cell count (anemia), itchiness, nasal congestion, skin irritation, fatigue and birth defects.

Combination therapy including pegylated interferon and ribavirin may cause psychosis or suicidal behavior in a small number of people. For this reason, treatment with interferon isn't recommended if you have a history of uncontrolled major depression. You're also not a good candidate for this treatment if you're pregnant or have untreated thyroid disease, low blood cell counts or autoimmune disease, or if you drink alcohol or use drugs and are unwilling to stop or seek help with stopping.

Side effects from combined pegylated interferon and ribavirin are generally most severe during the first few weeks of treatment, and may be improved with pain relief medications and antidepressants. However, some people taking interferon need their dosage reduced because of severe side effects, and others must stop treatment.

Liver transplantation

The best treatment for people with end-stage liver disease is liver transplantation. However, the number of people awaiting transplants far exceeds the number of donated organs. But several new developments in transplantation may make it possible for more people to receive transplants.

These developments include the donation of liver segments from living relatives, splitting one donated liver between two recipients, new organ allocation policies and, especially, new approaches to liver transplants for people with HCV.

Until recently, HCV-infected livers were routinely discarded. But studies show that people already infected with HCV who receive livers from HCV-positive donors can do as well as if they had received a liver not infected with the virus. This may mean that many more livers will become available for people with hepatitis C.

Liver transplantation does not cure HCV. The majority of people with hepatitis C who receive liver transplants experience a recurrence of the virus. Those with HCV who receive liver transplants also are at accelerated risk of developing cirrhosis within five years. Treatment with HCV-fighting medications may help prevent a recurrence of infection or treat recurrent illness that develops after a liver transplant. However, the effectiveness of this type of treatment after a liver transplant is unclear.

Immunizations

Your doctor will likely recommend that you are vaccinated against the hepatitis A and B viruses. These are separate viruses that can also cause liver damage and complicate treatment of hepatitis C.

Reply:Your friend MUST stop drinking and doing drugs. It's really hard on the liver any how, even worse with hep c. He should ask his doctor about taking interferon treatments. The new treatments don't have the severe side effects like the old one and has a much high percentage rate of helping people. There is no cure for hep c, but a successful barrage of treatments can lower the viral load to 0. The virus always stays in the body, even after treatment. I have met a lot of people that have had great success with the treatments. My husband just started them. He got Hep c from a field blood transfusion in Viet Nam. He's had the disease all these years and never knew it. But he is not a drinker and never did drugs, so his liver is actually in really good condition. Tell your friend to ask his doctor. A liver transplant is not a cure for hep c either. They are good for maybe 5 - 10 years and hep c can reoccur.

There is no risk for her transmitting Hep C unless she is sharing needles with her customers or sharing razors.

Hep C transmission outside of injection drug use (sharing needles) is fairly uncommon and there are no restrictions on employment.

For Hep C to transmit, her blood has to leave her body and enter the blood stream of another person (which is a pretty difficult task)

So, she can work ANYWHERE she likes and does not have to disclose her Hep C status to her employer. In fact, I wouldn't as there are a lot of misconceptions about Hep C!

She asked me 2 months ago about what I thought about her getting pregnant again. Im a nurse and i've always heard to wait at least a year to make sure you are totally healed. I told her I thought she should wait. She waited a month! Her son is 7 months old and she is 6 weeks pregnant. I've heard of horrible things happening like having your uterus rupture or just losing the baby. Has anyone else had a baby this soon? Do you think she will be ok?

My 1st was 6 months old when I got pg with my 2nd. I had absolutely no problems. I had cs with both of them. My OB did tell my at my first appt for 2nd baby that VBAC was not an option because of how close the pregnancies were. Wasn't an issue with me. Of course, there are always possible problems that can arrise in any pregnancy regardless of how close they are together. The best advice for your friend is to be prepared for not getting much sleep. Having two that young is tough...but worth it. My daughters are best friends, and once the younger was old enough to play...they entertain each other constantly.

Are you sure the cheaters are receiving good grades? Did you actually see their grades or was it just word of mouth? Cheating students cheat themselves out of an education and will not be able to perform well in a job that requires education. Cheating will not help one to quickly finish their college education, it will just keep one from receiving a college education.

Reply:the problem with hepatits c is although research shows that the most recognized pathway for transmission is by exchange of blood(transfusions, sharing combs and razors etc) there is a 40% of cases where the transmission is not understood and could be anything , it could even be talking for all they know.

regarding sex a lot of evidence suggests that in monogamous relationships there is virtually no transmission ,only in promiscuous sex is there a risk. also vertical transmission (from mother to child during birth) is not common for this type of hepatitis.

i personally seen many cases where only one of the spouses is affected and no transmission to either spouse or children but thats in our country where monogamous relations is the norm ,people rarly engage in sex with different partners .

Hep C is not contracted through casual contact, and it rarely transmitted through sex. You are probably not at risk unless you have shared toothbrushes, razors, tattoo needles, or piercing needles with her (I'm leaving out the other risk factors because you said you don't do drugs). Your local health dept. may offer free testing if you have a risk factor. Many people have hep c and don't find out for many years later because there are no symptoms until the liver becomes very damaged. Get tested %26amp; find out for sure. Best wishes.

Hep C is a blood to blood transmission type.

Meaning your blood has to contact her blood.

drinking, clothes, and touching will have no affect.

this is a very serious, yet common thing for many young girls to do. The reason people do this is because they are in so much emotional pain and they do not know how to direct it. They cut because the physical pain feels better than the emotional pain. They cut because when it hurts physically, then its a reason to cry and it's like a catalyst to letting out some of the emotional pain. Some cut because they feel completely numbed emotionally and they just want to feel something. Your friend needs help. Encourage her to seek some counseling. If she is a minor, she needs to talk with a school counselor and/or her parents. No boy is worth going through everything she is going through. I know of a really excellent article that discusses this subject in more detail.

Reply:people self mutilate because they think they aren't in control of anything else. they think that the pain they give themselves is the only thing they can control. if the problem is about guys it would be a self-esteem problem. teen and preteen boys are jerks; they are selfish, stupid, and heavily influenced by their friends. that's all i can say, raise her self-esteem and tell her to concentrate on her studies more... tip: check out some self-esteem and "how do i get a guy to like me" questions. there sometimes are wise answers.

My friend's baby is breach and having a few probs we just found out they are going to deliver it Tuesday!!! She is so not ready... I am trying to figure out everything she needs for the newborn baby and herself to make sure all is ready. What she need herself for recovery/comfort etc. Her husband is usless and they live in another city. I am going to call her mom (not around much) and get her to run some erronds and buy/get all last minute stuff. Any suggestions?

My wife had to have 2 c-sections. Here's what I learned:

1. A "care package" with a hairbrush, toothpaste, toothbrush, facewipes and any makeup items she wants so she doesn't have to go upstairs.

2. A "mobile diaper station" on the 1st floor of the house so she didn't have to go upstairs to the diaper-changer. It was a small basket with wipes, diapers and a roll-up foam pad for the baby.

3. Walkie-talkies for our 4yo so she doesn't have to yell to find him in the house.

4. New slippers so she doesn't have to bend over to put on her shoes.

5. Sapphire earrings. (OK - that was just for fun.)

Reply:the first couple of weeks all you really need is a bassinett, some clothes, and formula if she isn't going to breast feed (remember she will be on pain meds bc of the surgery and may not want to nurse) All babies do the first couple of weeks is eat, sleep, and poo. (newborn diapers are great too!) After having a Csection, she will have trouble getting around, and will need someone to help her take care of the baby for at least the first couple of days depending on her pain level.
Reply:She could really use someone to stay with her for the first few weeks. It will be difficult for her to lift the baby etc to change it even at first -its major abdominal surgery.

The baby doesn't need anything but breastmilk, diapers and blankets. Baby wipes/zinc oxide cream are useful too ;)
Reply:What a nice friend, she is lucky to have you. Well, diapers always come in handy. Is she going to breastfeed? Do you have access to her place? Making sure the crib is set up, blankets, sheets on, etc. If she is not going to breastfeed, make sure all the bottles have been washed. Maybe cleaning up a little. When I came home from the hospital, my house was a mess and the last thing I wanted to do was pick up and unpack. Good luck.
Reply:Well she will need the basic for her comfort allot of rest and hot chocolate, tea, chicken soup's etc., she will also need comfortable warm slippers, socks and clothes when she get's out of the hospital. For the baby she will need a car seat clothes lots of diapers, wipes, bottles, nipples for the bottles, burping towels, most importantly baby-formula, little receiving blankets for the baby, baby-shampoo, baby-lotion, and much much more but that's the most important basic stuff she will need a C-Section ain't that bad she just needs lot's of support have someone in the room with her which will help scratch her nose, hold her hand, give her all the details of what's going on of course she is not able to see neither the person in with her you're only able to see when the doctor is pulling the baby out then they clean up the baby and hand it to the person in there to grab the baby and put it next to her face I was with my sister when she had her baby is a precious moment, When she goes to the Hospital make sure she takes her bag with all her stuff she will need...

Hope she has a healthy and safe Delivery...

(i have heard), baby grooming kit, bibs, books to read to the baby from day one, vaseline,

she will need rest rest rest. and maybe an electric breast pump they are about $250 but it will be something she can really really use if she plans to breast feed.
Reply:It takes longer to recover after a c-section. One thing you could do is prepare several meals and then freeze them for her so all she has to do is pop them in the microwave. Also, make sure she has her bag for the hospital packed, a going home outfit for the baby, the car seat, diapers etc. And she won't be able to lift things or do any movements that she needs to stretch for, so maybe you could help her with housework and stuff like that. Also, get her a gift, something pampering to her, like some delicious smelling lotions.

Oh, and get her some Balmex cream, that's the best kind to treat and protect the baby's bottom from diaper rash!

Okay its been happening for a while now... my friend keeps implying that i have no chance of getting an A for GCSE... Like the other day when we were all talking about what grades we want to get, my other mate goes i hope i get an A and i said the same then for some stupid reason she goes ''ohh i don't no about you'' i mean what kind of friend is that!?! ... and she implies to every one that ''people like me'' are unable to get A s. Today, when i got back my grade report she just had to make sure she saw what i got! She's always been implying things like this and just because I'm not in as many higher sets at school as her she feels i am not good what so ever! All of this has really put me down and how could someone think that! She is also very competitive and i have started to prove her wrong since i got As in 2 of my c/ws.

I have told her about this but for some reason i'm still getting really put down and annoyed and i don't understand why she does this! what do you think??

I think that she is not a very good friend to you at all! She keeps putting you down just because you did whatever you could to try and get a certain grade on your exams. Just because she takes higher classes than you, does NOT give her the right to put you down. She is NOT better than anybody else and she should know that. The best thing that you can do for yourself is to stop being her friend. You DO NOT deserve anybody that will put you down at anything you set your mind to do. Continue to be friends with the people who will support you at anything you do and not put you down. Keep in mind that there are people out there who are smarter than her and she will get what's coming to her. I hope my advice helps you. Best of luck and focus on getting good grades. Don't worry about what she thinks.

I'm doing GCSEs right now and either people don't give a toss what they get and just doss around or they are just so competitive and obsessive, wanting to get all straight A*s.

I wouldn't worry about this girl she's obviously a bit insecure about her own achievements so she's putting you down.

I had the same thing, this girl who i hang around with at school (who i don't actually like, long story) found out that i wanted to do French at A-level and i was predicted A*. So then she suddenly started trying really hard in all the tests just so she could beat me. But it didn't work :) Anyway she knows i'm crap at chemistry so she acts really patronizing telling me she's going to help me etc. which sounds kind but if you saw how she meant it you'd realise its not lol. So eventually she gave up trying to beat me and then she tried to copy my coursework. That didn't work either, cos i just gave it in. And now she's completely given up and she's now telling people that its stupid that i want to do so well and that i work too much and that i work instead of going out. Which is crap. And to top it off she calls me "Hermione" out of the Harry Potter films lol. And it doesn't help that i apparently look like her. Flattering, i think not.

So after that rambling, my point is that either way, this girl is going to put you down, she sounds that type of person.

Hmm, maybe we actually go to the same school because it definately sounds like a similar girl lol..

At the end of the day it's up to you to prove her wrong, and you seem to have made a fab start already.

I have a really close guy friend and I like him more than just a friend but I don't know whether I should let him know or not. My friends say they think he could like me that way by what they've seen but I keep on doubting it thinking he's just being a friend. First, ask yourself this: would you rather go on being his friend and live in this torture, or would you rather know for certain how he feels?

I know from experience that loosing a guy is sometimes much better that keeping one you will always wonder about.

I mean you could meet one anywhere. It is all in getting to know someone. A lady may not want to disclose that she doesn't imbibe (sometimes it can be a social deterrent) but she may be comfortable to once she gets to know you.

Or dining alone. Trust me that totally works for some reason.

The grocery store is a good place. OR a bookstore (men who read things other then mens magazines are a turn on).

Reply:There are tons of places that C %26amp; S people hang out with each other. The only problem is that there must be a reason that you've quit drinking. Most of the time it is a moral decision as opposed to a health decision. Having been to several AA and NA meetings I know that there is the whole concept of locating the higher power! well Churches and other religious associations provide enviroments for such needs. It doesn't have to be a church, there are associations like the ymca or others recreational facilities that you could find some honeys at. Other than that the Liquid Courage is a problem. I too suffer from having my word stolen by the angels! my advice find a good recreational facility, one with a decent amount of ladie activies as well as coed, then just jump in play around with some women and then make the dreaded move!

You also mentioned that you left because you didn't get enough attention. Apologizing is easy for this since your friend probably wont want to hear it anyway. Just say I am sorry I left early on you and then go learn how to be ok with not being the center of attention.

Maybe they decided you were bad for them. Sometimes we have to get rid of friends who are being toxic to us in our lives. I have a friend who is completely against marriage, this is fine, but I just got married, and all she can talk about are horror stories and statistics on why marriage is bad. That is a toxic friend. Now I haven't completely cut off all ties because there are many things I enjoy about her. But I do see her much less often than some of my other friends.

Were really good friends but I can't seem to get him out of my head. He's always joking with me and my friends think he's flirting but I don't think he is. I think he's just being a friend. Do you have a close girl friend that you can talk to about your feelings for this guy? One who won't go gossiping behind your back? Or maybe it is time to start keeping a diary or journal. Cause, if you tell him about your feelings for him, it may backfire on you.

Whenever a girl pursues a guy more than he is pursuing her, he will pursue her less.

Why should he risk failure when she is happy to pursue him? Automatically, he will relax more and become more passive about the relationship. Instead of thinking what she may want, he begins thinking more about what he wants. This turnaround is very confusing for a girl b/c her assertive approach is successful in the working place but backfires in a friends/relationship thingy. Leave things as they are..... let it grow and develop on it's own.

I wish I could help, but I can't even help myself. Which is sad. But it turned out okay for me, my guy friend was so kickarse that it was only awkward for a few days after he...um...kind of accidentally found out that I liiiiiiiked him. Long story, lesson learned. Don't get drunk and tell secrets.

I was lucky, I fell in love with someone who cared enough about me to know that I didn't want to talk about it unless he returned my feelings. And he didn't, so we don't talk about it.

Anywhooo, all I can say is you should probably go for it. I know you probably don't really want to, but you know what, you'll never know for sure unless you bring it up.

And don't pull that dumb middle school trick and get a friend of yours to ask him, that's really annoying. Nobody likes other people nosing around, asking them questions about their feelings, especially not a guy.

So, as much as you would probably hate to do this and you hyper-ventilate at the very thought of it, you gotta ask him.

You can't play it safe, you just have to go for it.

Worst comes to worst, you'll get some valuable life experience to share with your friends when they have this problem later on.

But be careful, think about it for a minute. It could be better if you told him and got it over with. If he doesn't like you, you can move on. If he does, you get to smooch him.

Just don't let it get so bad that you obsess over him, that's not a flattering quality to develop.

My Friend has no insurance right now She was suppose to be getting it thruogh the state but has not recived it yet, but now she is misscaring and she is not sure wether she should get the D%26amp;C or not I myself have also miscarried but did not get the d%26amp;c done and everthing went fine for me but every body is dif. She should do what the doctor recommends. As far as the insurance goes, she can probably still use it to cover her expenses once she gets her card. It should cover everything from the day that she turned in her application.
Reply:She should NOT get the D%26amp;C in my opinion. Especially if the m/c has already started - there is no need and they probalby wouldnt do it anyway if she is already bleeding. I did have a missed m/c where the baby quit growing. They wanted me to get a D%26amp;C but I decided to wait for it to happen naturally (your body knows how to handle this even if it takes a while - it is part of the natural process. While it helps to move on by having it "over" via D%26amp;C, it is much harder on the body, can effect future fertility, and takes longer to be able to try again. Further, the hospital stay is much more expensive.) If she did have a missed m/c or there is tissue (very rare) that doesn't all come out, then there is also the lesser expensive, less invasive, easier on the body option of asking the doctor to prescribe misoprotosol. This is what i took. It cause the body to kick into contractions and get the m/c to start.

Best to you and my condolences to your friend. It is very nice of you to be concerned and there for her during this time. I've been through 2 and wouldnt wish it on anyone.

Reply:sometimes you do not need a D %26amp; C. also, the state can retroactivate her insurance if it was supposed to be effective by now. most doctors will take cash patients, and she may not need anything but an iron pill. call the local OBGYNs and see what they say.

I think that's really up to the dr and how far along she is. I didn't have one done either when I mc'd, but if she must have it...she must, for her health. She can work out a payment plan with the hospital. I know I was able to make payments on some things my insurance didn't cover. Best of luck.

It depends on the situation. My mom had to have a c-section with me due to not progressing with her labor and her water had broke over 12 hours before, so the risk of infection was very high. But when she had my sister 18 yrs. later, she elected to have an c-section, when the drs. told her that she was a very good candidate for V-BAC (vaginal birth after cesarian), yet she opted to have the surgery once again. Her dr. didn't argue the point, just set the date once she was 38 weeks and it's all history now. I think it's becoming more popular to have a c-section just because you can control the date if it's not in an emergency. I know my mom picked Nov. 5th just because it was on a Thursday, and that meant she could go to Bible Study that wednesday beforehand for the last time until my sister was old enough to take out the house, and it was also the birthday of her boyfriend who had passed away in Jan. of that same year, so it was a "tribute" of sorts to him as well.

Me myself personally, I also chose to schedule a c-section with both of my children. I hate prolonged pain, and I knew that although it would take longer to recover from the c-section, I couldn't imagine being in labor for countless hours and in so much pain. I'd had 2 surgeries before on my pelvic region, so I knew how the pain would be afterwards, and it's nothing compared to what you go through in actual labor. So I chose to have my oldest daughter on my grandmother's birthday, as her 67th birthday gift being it was her 1st great-grandchild, and my 2nd daughter 18 months later on my grandfather's bithday as his 72nd birthday present. They both said it was the best gifts they've ever recieved. There was no medical reason that I couldn't give birth vaginally, I just didn't want to and I went into the situation knowing fully what I was getting into and the possible risks involved, too.

I'n not advocating elective c-sections as an option for everyone, but to me, it's your body and you should be able to choose what you are willing to put it through.
Reply:Technology are supposed to make our lives easier and better. And that's what C-section is for. You don't need a medical reason to have one. Most people go for natural birth because it's cheaper. The only downside of C-section is that, you recover slower compared to mothers who had natural birth. But then again, it depends on the person's body (how well they can cope with C-section/natural birth pains).
Reply:It really all depends on the doctor you have. Typically a c-section is only done if it is medically necessary. Unfortunately the way things are these days, more times then not a doctor is anxious to get a labor going and will do a c-section hence this is why the c-section rate in the US is high- due to medically unecessary c-sections. Natural is so much better than having a c-section, for one thing your recovery time is going to be a lot longer for a c-section then natural, and the pain is also going to be worse. Judging by the question, it makes me feel like your friend has not had any type of childbirth education. I think she should contact a local childbirth educator or doula in her area to further educate herself about birth, including the options available to her for pain management, etc and also fill out a birth plan.

Reply:A C-section is for medical reasons and is not an elective. You don't want to have a c-section if you can avoid one. A c-section is considered a major surgury and comes with risks. All doctors will encourage a vaginal delivery and only resort to a c-section. If the natural way is not working or if an emergancy happens during the delivery.

Friend and I are wanting to start a business... Just the two of us. Start up cost is about $15,000.00. I will be initally funding this venture of ours. Friend has the main ideas for the business and trust and know his ideas are solid.

On a personal level, I manage money very well, and unfortunately, he doesn't. He is late on even basic payments for his own utilities and cell phone whereas I'm on top of payments. But he and I have been best friends for 15 years plus and can trust him with my life but not in financial aspects. I'm doing most of the legal work via w/ my attorneys and uncertain how to split profits.

I was initially thinking 60 for him and 40 for me but now that i'm writing this down, maybe it should be 50/50 split with me owning at least 70% of the business, so I would have control over the company due to above reasons. Any other feedback regarding starting a business in general would be appreciated.

You are in the EXACT same shoes as my EX BEST FRIEND and I were in 8 yrs ago. 17 yrs of being friends, etc.

He is just like you, and I am just like your friend but my money issues aren't as bad. But just like you, my friend got GREEDY thinking he deserved more than me, even thought it was MY IDEAS that were creating our company.

We did an LLC and split it 50/50. Later he brought in his wife as a secretary and cut her a %. Then brought in his brother as a worker and cut him a %. Then brought in his father and cut him a %. So then it was now his company and no longer mine as I was the lowerest share holder even thought it was MY IDEA.

Today, we are not friends, the company went bancrupt due to his greed of nothing is enough unless 100%. He lost both his homes, got a divorce, doesn't see his boys, his father has a lawsuit on him for $74k. Among many other items.

I myself came out untouched as his greed took responsiblity for what happened. He ran the numbers, he signed all the papers. And he went to the bottom due to his greed.

I'll tell you right now, make it 50/50. And if you can't get over the fact you are BOTH bringing 1/2 the company to existence, then don't even bother starting it. Just cause you have the cash or the numbers background does not warrant you as having more. Actually it warrants you to having less, as numbers doesn't make the sales. The creative side does that.. your partner.

I am back open, alone, no partners and will never have another. Just glad the customers knew and realized where the real tallent of the business was. With me, as they have returned to me as customers.

OH MY! This thread got a little out of hand didn't it? First off to answer Bucket's question (and I don't see that he ever mentioned that his friend HAD Hep C just that he wanted to be tested) - everyone SHOULD be tested for Hep C whether they have a risk factor or not. 4 million people (at least) are walking around with it and don't know they have it because there are not any symptoms. What state do you live in? Some states have Viral Hepatitis Coordinators at their State Health Departments that can provide you with a Home Access test kit that is anonymous and confidential and free. Or if you have $60 you can purchase a kit from online and then call in for your results in a few weeks. That is the first test (ELISA/RIBA) that most people get but then you have to do a follow up EXPENSIVE test called a PCR to find out if you have an actual VIRAL LOAD. You can test positive for Hepatitis C, have the antibodies, but might have cleared the virus on your own (about 30% of people do). Also as someone else suggested your county Health Dept is a good place to start and if you are 18 everything is confidential) If your friend did have Hep C than he/she would have had to either bled INTO the tattoo ink (yes Hep C can live in the ink and on many types of surfaces for up to 4 days) or stuck himself with the needle before he stuck you. Spring Rose and Bayla have given you some excellent education about Hep C. I am shocked that SL doesn't seem to know more since both she and her husband are infected with it. One would think they would educate themselves more about it since they have it! Is SL's husband blaming her for his Hep C because he is saying he got it from having sex with her? That would be a sad and INCORRECT situation! SL even said herself that Hep C is spread by blood (see below) but then seemed to change her mind about it. The guilt your husband is causing you to feel must be overwhelming! Please get some better education and throw the jerk out if he is trying to blame you! Studies indicate in monagomous relationships the incidence of possible sexual transmission is less than 1% but again BLOOD TO BLOOD would have to be involved! Is your husband cheating on you and having bloody sex with someone else? Is he snorting drugs and not telling you? Has he had a pedicure? A haircut at a barbershop? Was he in the military? Did he pick up a bloody kleenex you left lying around?

YOU GET HEPc by injecting drugs with a used needle from an infected person, or being stuck by a dirty needle at work (medical, dental etc) or having sex with that person or exchanging body fluids with that person, having a few tat's myself, I know that a good and experienced tattoo artist doesn't do any of that...so just getting a tat from a hepC friend does not give the disease to you...however since you seem to want to get check anyhow, being 18 your parents can not under the law get your results...just let the doctor know that ONLY you can get the results and NOT to have anyone call or send information to your address.. hope you have a great day...and remember... you are NOT automatically infected just because the person has it...you must do something to get that person blood into your system. Reply:I too was exposed to hepatitis C and it totally freaked me out. I am a nurse, so I could not tell anyone and my testing had to be totally confidential.

Call your local health department and find out if they will do a confidential screening. They may not if you live in a small county, but they can refer you to someone who will test you and give you a confidential result.

If you fear Hep C. you also need to realize that its not curable and can effect others if they come in contact with your blood and some of your other body fluids. Reply:S L: If you have Hep C, I would think you would be more educated about it. Hep C is spread from blood to blood contact ONLY. It is NOT spread from sweat, saliva, semen, tears, vaginal secretions, or any other bodily fluids. Just blood. It takes DIRECT blood to blood contact to have any risk of contracting Hep C. It is NOT sexually transmitted either. The ONLY way to contract Hep C during sex is if blood is involved. I am not trying to be rude to you, but having Hep C myself, as well as my mother, I would think that you, a fellow hepper =), would have more knowledge about the subject. Especially being in the medical field as well. Anyway, to the asker, unless your friend is Hepatitis C positive and his blood was on the needle before he gave you the tattoo, you have nothing to worry about. You can get a Hep C panel to find out for sure, but your risk is slim to none. You CAN get Hep C from needles, but they have to be dirty needles. Meaning your Hep C positive friend had to get his blood on the needle first. The test does cost money unless you have insurance to cover it and since you are 18, you just have to tell the doctor's office or clinic that they can only release you medical information and test results to you. Are you looking for grades or knowledge? Knowledge is a more tangible and beneficial accomplishment. It will stay with you and become a tool for you, while the grades will not. If you know the material your effort is rewarded. If not, a better grade is a false reward.

IF you know the material and it is "pretty much identical" to that of your friend who received an 'A', go to the professor, explain what you did and why it's right and ask for credit for your work. DO NOT mention the friend. The professor should be able to tell you why your work is right or wrong, sufficient or insufficient and worth either the C or an A.

While I certainly recognize that getting equal grades for equal results is something that everyone expects, don't expect to receive everything in life that you "deserve." Sometimes you'll get what you earn. Sometimes you won't. When you don't, it's not always a plot to cheat you, to be purposely unfair, or to "keep you down" or "hold you back". Sometimes, it's just that people or groups in power have made a mistake or decided on some course of action that "is good for everybody." It sucks, but that's life. I agree with the first answer. If that person is not seen as a friend, I would block the person. I've only had to block a former friend once because she was just being plain rude. She was very self-centred, pushy, shallow, and, just annoying. She was never there for me during troubling times, plus, we were just growing apart. It happens. Long story:Im 21,Im 19 weeks prego,just got married 3/2/08 well I've been b.friends w/ girlfriend for 10 years now,she's 20,well we used 2 do everything together,but she was really a BAD influence now that my hubby has pointed it out to me,I would never stand up for myself to her,she slept around,I did it too,we both got hooked on drugs,but I got off easy %26amp; she was very addicted(coke),well I have helped her through so many things in our life time,I was there when she was coming off her drug problems,boyfriend problems,so many things,I have been the nicest friend you could think of.Well now that Im prego,I really need a her,I changed when I met my hubby,matured more,I go 2 church,I didn't do the things I used to so that led me to not really hang around w/ b.f,Well I wrote her on m'spce %26amp; told her how I felt,like she could come c me,%26amp; call me sometime,well she pretty much blasted me out,saying bad things about my hubby,%26amp; me,n how i was not a friend to her really anymore,bc i changed,

She's very insecure and afraid she's losing you--to the new baby, the husband, the new life, everything. When you start going to church, and your friends don't, it seems to threaten them more than anything else. I don't know why.

And weirdly enough, when some people fear they're losing you, that's when they try their hardest to push you away.

It sounds like you've tried all the right things, and she's just too mad, hurt, and selfish to listen. You can try talking to her one more time. Tell her how much you value her friendship, and how hurt you are by the things she's said and done. Reassure her you will always be her bf, even when everything changes, but she has to make some changes too. She can't badmouth your husband and baby, and you need her to be there for you too.

She sounds like a very self-centered person though, who has taken advantage of you a lot. She needs a lot more help than you can give her, like counseling and rehab for starters. I know it hurts, but you may be better off without her in the long run. Like your husband said, she was a bad influence once and could be again, trying to drag you back down into your old life. Look at all the pain she's causing you. A true best friend doesn't do that.

Pray about the situation and ask God to lead you. Do what's best for you, your baby, and your husband. They're making your life better; she obviously makes it worse. It's a no-brainer.

We used to be drinking/drugs buddies, but I settled down with my fiance and got straight, and when I found out I was pregnant, that was pretty much it, she wasn't interested anymore if I wasn't there to party.

Right now, you need to focus on what is best for you, your baby, and your husband.

Okay, here's the best way to handle it. Ask the other girl, and explain to her that you would like to dance with other female friends as well, and ask her if that would be alright with her. Then try to get a kind of mixed group thing going, and so that one girl isn't ever on her own and feeling left out - ask your friends to help with this. It's just a dance, socialising with music. In fact, it would be nice if you made a point of dancing with all the girls in your class, if the evening is long enough.

she found out yesterday that shes pregnant but worried she will have to have a c-section because shes quite a small. shes 5 foot 1 and (uk) size 10/12 clothes, she used to be a lot taller but shrunk in the last year or so :s

She wont know until when the baby is ready to come. She should hope for a vaginal delivery, it's so much better on both her and baby. If the time comes that she needs a c-section, she should be happy and relaxed and just be glad that her baby can be brought into this world safely and healthy.

Good luck with this! Tell her not to worry so much over the small stuff. That sort of thing is out of her control. She may deliver naturally, maybe not. Tell her to focus on a healthy pregnancy. That's the biggest thing right now.

To faciliate birth, she should give birth in whatever position she naturally gravitates towards. Lying on the back is usually the worst position in which to push as it decreases the pelvic outlet. IME, pushing is SO much easier when you're upright.

Usually the first programming class is designed for the student who has no proir exposure to the language in use. That is how my first C/C++ class was and it was a breeze.

I wouldn't say either language is easier or harder. The only real difference in C++ is that you need to be more worried about managing memory. Otherwise, they're almost the same.

There is indeed a treatment for Hep C that can result in a cure for a certain percentage of those who complete the therapy. The length of treatment and the success rate depends on the strain of Hep C a person carries.

About 20% of people who contract Hepatitis C will clear the virus spontaneously within the acute infection stage (up to 6 months after infection. For the other 80%, chronic Hep C infection.

The treament available can be very challenging to undertake and is very similar to chemotherapy for cancer patients in effects on the body. A person only really has one shot at treatment as the success rates plummett if a first attempt is discontinued or if treatment doesn't work.

The most common strain found in Canada is genotype 1 (there are 6 main genotypes 1-6 and each of those can be broken into subtypes a, b,c d, e etc.,.)

The “harder”to treat types are:

Gentoypes 1, 4, 5 and 6

Geno- 1 (most common in Canada) : 48 week course of medications

42-46 % rate success rate (virus is cleared)

The “easiest” to treat are:

Genotypes 2, 3 (less common in Canada)

24 week course of medication

76-82 % success rate (virus is cleared)

To answer your question specifically, you will have to find out what strain she has, and factor in other variables like age, average health, lifestyle etc.,.

Doesn't necessarily mean it's because of previous C-section. . . other things to consider: is this the same man from previous pregnancy (if not then maybe he is the factor), current health (is she very over/underweight or have an STD-- not meant to offend, it's something to consider), lifestyle and stress level, etc. If none of these are possibilities, then she probably falls into the very vague "secondary infertility" group whereby a woman who has previously had a baby and is otherwise healthy cannot get pregnant again. She should see her dr to rule out any physical or hormonal problems (her partner too) then read up on info about secondary infertility. . . it's a subject not often talked about. Wish her luck!!!
Reply:There are no long term side effects from C-sections, other than possible inability to have a vaginal birth. Has your friend been checked to see if perhaps (God forbid) their parents and/or doctor had them sterilized with that C-section? Infertility is considered to be after a year of unprotected sex without conception. If your friend falls into that catagory, she should see a doctor for her infertility. If, also, she possibly had pelvic inflammatory disease at any point in her life, her tubes could be scarred enough to prevent pregnancy. These are only suppositions, however, as we don't know more about your friend.

A friend of mine is soon going to fly into Baltimore, and then go from there to D.C.
