Can I catch this by just being around him?

I have a very good friend with hep-c. How contagious is this?
diagnosed in 97(when people first started to hear about this disease that robs your energy and changes lives)my husband also positive..HOWEVER i have raised 3 teens and all are NEGATIVE(test yearly) so in close living conditions u label toothbrushes nail clippers! and personal hygiene items -dont bleed all over cuts scrapes etc bandage them etc COMMON SENSE u are very safe with your friend unless they are one with "benefits" do not be scared or act like he is a leper that hurts when people treat u like that some friends can understand ..you will take care of yourself--if they start interferon(done 2xs no help to me) they will be very sick flu like and need you to cheer them and help out i have lots of info if you would like to get it email me good luck

Reply:My husband was diagnosed with Hep C in 1998 Contacted it in 1968 from infected blood transfusion.We had sex all these years and neither myself or our 3 children were infected.It is only transmitted blood to blood.If you have sex you should wear a condom.

Reply:no you can't catch it by being around them. you are safe as long as you are not having unprotected sex or sharing needles.
Reply:Bottom line, HCV is contracted through blood-to-blood transmission - it could be anything or any activity that can transmit this virus from blood to blood (including unprotected sex that entails blood-to-blood viral transmission or even kissing with bleeding gums, contact sports, open wounds, and sharing personal hygene applications including utensils and medical items that are contaminated with blood of an HCV patient).





Just always take the necessary precautions when being around and keep yourself from getting contaminated.
